Helms College signed and returned to the Department of Education a Certification and Agreement assuring that the institution has used, or intends to use, no less than 50 percent of the funds received under Section 18004(a)(1) of the CARES Act to provide Emergency Financial Aid Grants to students.
Helms College received $301,498 from the Department pursuant to the institution’s Certification and Agreement for Emergency Financial Aid Grants to Students.
June 8, 2020, a total of $264,200 Emergency Financial Aid Grants was distributed to students under Section 18004(a)(1) of the CARES Act.
A total of 226 students at the institution who are or could be eligible to participate in the Federal Student Financial Aid (FSA) programs under Section 484 of the Higher Education Act of 1965, as amended, and thus are eligible to receive Emergency Financial Aid Grants to students under Section 18004(a)(1) of the CARES Act.
A total of 218 students received an Emergency Financial Aid Grant to students under Section 18004(a)(1) of the CARES Act.
Students with an Expected Family Contribution less than 1001 received $1300; students with an Expected Family Contribution greater than 1000 received $900; and students who could be eligible to participate in FSA programs received $900 under Section 18004(a)(1) of the Cares Act.
As of August 7, 2020, the institution has $37,298 remaining of the original $301,498.
December 10, 2020, a total of $30,600 Emergency Financial Aid Grants was distributed to 70 students under Section 18004(a)(1) of the CARES Act. Students with an Expected Family Contribution less than 1001 received $500; students with an Expected Family Contribution greater than 1000 received $300; and students who could be eligible to participate in FSA programs received $300 under Section 18004(a)(1) of the Cares Act.
As of December 31, 2020, the institution has $6,698 remaining of the original $301,498.
January 28, 2021, a total $6,698 Emergency Financial Aid Grants was distributed to 8 students under Section 18004(a)(1) of the CARES Act. Students with an Expected Family Contribution less than 1001 received $1,000; and students with an Expected Family Contribution greater than 1000 received $359.
February 17, 2021, Helms College was awarded 1,077,604 from the federal Coronavirus Response and Relief Supplemental Appropriations Act, or HEERF II – CRRSAA of which $301,498 was allocated to Student Emergency Funds. Unlike the CARES Act, CRRSAA requires institutions to prioritize students with exceptional needs, such as students who receive Pell Grants, in awarding financial aid grants to students.
May 13, 2021, Helms College received a total of $941,704 from the Department of Education pursuant to the Supplemental Agreement for Emergency Financial Aid Grants to Students under the American Rescue Plan (ARP). No action was required by Helms College to receive the supplemental funds.

A total of 103 students with an Expected Family Contribution equal to 0 received $2,165; 31 students with an Expected Contribution greater than 0 and less than 5847 received $1,665; 20 students with an Expected Family Contribution greater than 5846 received $1,165; and 26 with no Expected Family Contribution received $665.
