7200 seconds. 120 minutes. 2 hours. However you slice it, the time you spend at our upcoming Helms College open house may be brief, but it can change your life forever.
If you are searching for a college or trade school that will be the perfect fit for the career goals you have in mind chances are likely you have already begun your due diligence. You have probably prepared a checklist of the schools you are interested in and read their online reviews, perused their website and maybe even read their blog. In light of all your research, you may still have questions. Attending an open house is a great way to find meaning behind those answers you’ve been looking for.
Open house is different from a traditional campus tour because it gives you access to faculty, staff, students and alumni who are available to answer questions and you’ll have the opportunity to tour the campus as well. Even if you know you want to attend a particular school, such as Helms College here are a few reasons you should still make plans to attend open house:
First impressions mean a great deal when visiting a campus. Being able to view a school from many different angles — from instructors to facilities to financial aid options—will give you a feel for whether or not it’s a good fit for you, in and out of the classroom.
Meet Future Classmates . . . and Make Friends
Open house is a great way to start getting to know the people with whom you’ll be learning. These could be your future classmates, friends and kindred spirits that help nurture you down your path to success — after all, we are all in this together! Use open house as a time to talk to other attendees and get a sense for the diversity and personalities of students interested in attending.
Explore Your God-Given Talents and Passions
One of the most challenging aspects of college is choosing a curriculum — even if you think you already know what you want to do. During the open house, faculty and students representing various programs will be on hand to tell you why they love what they do, and how you can select the path that’s the best fit for you.
Start Plotting Your Career Path
How does the school you have in mind support and help prepare you for life after college?
