Become a Helms Mentor

The goal of Helms College's mentor program is to provide individual, outside support for students throughout their training and transition into the workforce.  Affiliated with Goodwill's Volunteer Services, the mentor program serves students from a variety of backgrounds, all of whom are striving to improve their lives and the lives of their families. As a mentor, you will help someone experience the self-sufficiency achieved by the pride and dignity of education and a career.

Veteran & Military Information

You may know Helms College’s proven programs in culinary arts. What you may not know are the advantages available to those of you who are making the transition from military life to a new career. 

Helms College’s Culinary Arts Diploma Program is approved for enrollment of persons eligible to receive education benefits from the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs.

Veterans Retraining Assistance Program (VRAP)

Congress passed, and the president has signed into law, the VOW to Hire Heroes Act of 2011.  Included in this new law is the Veterans Retraining Assistance Program (VRAP).  VRAP offers up to 12 months of training assistance to unemployed veterans.  The Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) and the Department of Labor (DOL) are working together to maintain this new program which started on July 1, 2012.
