Polly Long Denton School of Hospitality

Polly Long Denton School of Hospitality Associate Degree and  Diploma programs provide comprehensive, seamless educational programs that give students the knowledge and skills in the culinary arts.  The Associate in Applied Science (AAS) degree not only prepares graduates for higher-level employment in the hospitality industry, but because of an articulation agreement with the Art Institute, also allows continuation toward a Bachelor's Degree at one of five Southeastern campuses of the Art Institute. The Diploma program prepares graduates for executive chef, sous chef and restaurant manager positions.  The school's programs emphasize technical and theoretical knowledge combined with the practical applications of cooking, baking, serving, and management skills needed for success in the food industry.

During the program students are exposed to a wide variety of skills and experiences that benefit them as they begin or advance their career. Upon completion of the Diploma program, prior to pursuit of the AAS Degree, a student is eligible to apply to sit for the certification test with the American Culinary Federation (ACF) to become a certified culinarian (CC). The student will take the ServSafe Certification examination as part of all programs.

Unlike other culinary programs in Georgia, the Polly Long Denton School of Hospitality allows students to use their skills in actual restaurant, catering and cafeteria settings, as well as baking and pastry. Edgar's Bistro and the Anderson Conference Center, operated by Goodwill Industries of Middle Georgia and the CSRA - the parent organization of Helms College - are established as business enterprises in support of Helms College. Located alongside Helms College, both businesses provide hands-on learning opportunities as students work with executive chefs, experienced sous chefs, and an experienced restaurant manager throughout their program. The maximum number of students per class is 24. The maximum student to instructor ratio is 24:1.
